Homemade Applesauce

About 3 years ago Mike and I went apple picking at a small apple orchard north of Menomonee Falls, WI. I worked with someone at the time who knew the owners and was excited to go check it out. I never would have thought that Wisconsin produces such good apples when we first moved here but they do! This year the owners of the orchard said the apples have been great because of the rain we had this season.

Mike and Me at Rim's Edge Orchard- First Time Picking Apples

This was Mike and I at Rim’s Edge Orchard 3 years ago!!

I remember we ended up with a lot of apples last time and didn’t know what to do with them all. This year we made homemade applesauce, baked oatmeal with apples and walnuts (instead of peaches and pecans), morning glory muffins, and apple crisp! All of them have been delicious but I especially love the applesauce we made. Four simple ingredients and it’s put together in the crockpot: water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and apples! No need for sugar in this recipe, the Cortlands we used are sweet enough. :)
