Homemade Pizza Dough

Happy Monday!

I hope your week is off to a great start and if you’re a Seattle fan then I’m sure you’re having a great day! If you’re a Denver fan, I’m sorry for your loss and I was rooting for Denver but there’s no need to discuss the game anymore.

So onto more exciting things, what did you think of the commercials? My favorite was the Budweiser commercial with the puppy and Clydesdale, adorable! Which one was your favorite? There didn’t seem to be too many memorable or fantastic commercials this year in my opinion. Although I think the halftime show was awesome! I was highly impressed by Bruno Mars’ skills on the drums and also enjoyed the Red Hot Chili Peppers short performance.

This weekend Mike and I made homemade pizza dough for the first time and it was amazing! Remember how I said English Muffin Bread is one of the easiest breads to make? This dough is easier!! Honest! I can’t believe how easy it is but I have a feeling we’re never buying store bought pizza dough again!

Homemade Pizza Dough

Ingredients:
3-1/2 to 4 c bread flour**
1 tsp sugar
1 envelope instant dry yeast
2 tsp kosher salt
1-1/2 c water, 110 degrees F
2 tbsp olive oil

1. Combine the bread flour, sugar, yeast, and kosher salt in the bowl of a stand mixer with dough hook attachment and combine. While mixer is running, add the water and 2 tablespoons of the oil and beat until the dough forms into a ball. If the dough is sticky, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together in a solid ball. If the dough is too dry, add one tablespoon of water at a time.
2. Scrape the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead into a smooth, firm ball.
3. Grease a bowl with olive oil or non stick cooking spray, add the dough, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put in a warm area to rise for about an hour.
4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide into two equal pieces. Cover each with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let rest for 10 minutes.

***You can use all purpose flour but this will result in a chewier crust. Use bread flour for a crispier crust. If you use bread flour it’s recommended to store in the refrigerator.

To cook the pizza dough preheat the oven to 500 degrees F. Place a pizza stone in the oven while it preheats (if you have one).

Grease and flour a baking sheet and roll out dough to desired length and about a half inch thick. The half inch thickness will double in size in the oven.

Add your pizza sauce and toppings, for my magnificent pizza I used red sauce, red pepper flakes, Italian blend cheese, pepperoni and red pepper slices. Add cornmeal to pizza stone and slide pizza onto the pizza stone. Cook for 7-10 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Enjoy!
