This weekend was an awesome one with Mike! Mike took a vacation day Friday so we could have the entire weekend together! We made pillsbury crescent rolls with brie cheese and apples before dinner Friday night and they were delicious. I love how you can make so many different appetizers with the crescent rolls and they are so quick and easy.
While Mike was at work Saturday I went in search of a pair of mint green jeans and found them at Forever 21 for only $15.80! They may not be the highest quality jeans but for that price you can’t beat it. We went to DSW to check out the nude wedges from Friday’s Top Ten but they were more yellow than beige in person so I ended up not buying them.
Sunday evening we went to Eddie George’s Grill and while it’s a former OSU football player’s restaurant it’s in association with Jerome Bettis’ Grill so we deemed it acceptable for eating. (I despise the OSU Buckeyes) The food was excellent and we loved the style and atmosphere! After that we went to the Company of Thieves acoustic show at the Newport and we were blown away! The show was amazing with just Genevieve and Marc. This is a band Mike and I discovered together and one we’ve bonded through and if you enjoy music you should really check out their albums Running from a Gamble and Ordinary Riches. Von Grey opened for COT and they are a band of four sisters who are amazingly talented and capable of playing multiple instruments. What I loved most about them was they had a violin and a cello, no auto tune, real instruments and real music. After the concert we stayed to get Genevieve and Marc’s autographs and a quick pic together!
And finally in our jam packed weekend we made Alton Brown’s ‘chewy’ chocolate chip cookie recipe. I tried his recipe in hopes that my chocolate chip cookies would not turn out flat and it was a success! They were also a little puffy even though I did not use the ‘puffy’ chocolate chip recipe by Alton. Here is the ‘chewy’ chocolate chip recipe thanks to Yahoo Answers:
2 sticks unsalted butter
2 1/4 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
1 egg yolk
2 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
Melt the butter in a heavy-bottom medium saucepan over low heat. Sift together the flour, salt, and baking soda and set aside.
Pour the melted butter in the mixer’s work bowl. Add the sugar and brown sugar. Cream the butter and sugars on medium speed. Add the egg, yolk, 2 tablespoons milk and vanilla extract and mix until well combined. Slowly incorporate the flour mixture until thoroughly combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
Chill the dough, then scoop onto parchment-lined baking sheets, 6 cookies per sheet. Bake for 14 minutes or until golden brown, checking the cookies after 5 minutes. Rotate the baking sheet for even browning. Cool
